Name: "Robert Brown"I have a walrus tusk scrimshawed cribbige board. The hand written letter wrapped around it says that the board was brought to Cordova Alaska in 1924 when the Teddy Bear was towed there. The Teddy Bear had been frozen in the Artic ice, was disabled and a drift with the Captain and an Eskimo boy on board when found. The board was in the possesion of my Step Grandfather until given to my stepmother by his widow. He had been working in the Alaskan and Canadian areas hauling supplies over frozen rivers and I believe that he was living in Cordova at that time.

Robert,
Wow what a treasure, I am a Grand nephew of Captain Joseph Bernard and I live in Cordova, Alaska. Do you know if the board was off of the Teddy Bear? What was your Step Grand fathers name? Very interested in any information you may be able to share about your Step Grandfathers time in Cordova. I am trying to find some info on how the Teddy Bear ended up in Mud Bay which is on Hawkins Island an Island across the bay from Cordova. feel free to email me at odiak@gci.net
Thanks Bill Bernard
